Background:
Quality is a central value in the professional work of the Division of Government Medical Centres, Ministry of Health. Therefore, the importance of developing a comprehensive quality program for each of the 24 hospitals to submit annually emerged. This program aims to create a clear and uniform framework for managing quality by following a unified standard according to regulatory requirements and international standards.
Objectives:
Continuous monitoring and performance evaluation identify gaps, improve processes, allow the sharing of knowledge, and enable collaboration among centres to promote quality and safety.
Methodology:
Annually, a comprehensive quality plan is submitted to the quality management in the Division of Government Medical Centres, Ministry of Health from 24 Medical Centres (general, geriatric, and psychiatric).
Each program presents core goals, clinical and operational indicators, clinical protocols, improvement processes and departmental projects.
Findings:
The quality program provides a broad picture of the activities in each medical center. The collected indicators allow performance assessment across various fields identifying strengths and weaknesses in operational, clinical, and managerial aspects allowing for data evaluation and improvement.
The program has led to significant improvements in work processes.
The data collected is analyzed and presented transparently to the medical centers' management and professional teams and used for performance evaluation, identifying gaps, and making comparisons.
Quality leaders collaborate, share knowledge and experience which leads to the application of best practices and broad process improvements. Peer learning allows centers to learn from the successes and failures of others and apply improvements based on knowledge and experience.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
Digitalize the program, improve information systems and connect medical centres to facilitate knowledge sharing and learning.
