Introduction: Monkeypox, it’s an international health emergency. 89,000 cases havent been recorded worldwide, including 147 deaths in 2023. In 2024, Africa recorded 18,737 cases, including 53 confirmed cases in Côte d'Ivoire. The ME region recorded 3 suspected cases, including 1 confirmed case in the "400 HECTAR camp" in Mébifon. The objective was to describe and trace other cases around the confirmed case.
Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study of cases that was. A suspected case is any person with a sudden onset of rash associated with one or more of the following symptoms: headache, fever (T°>38°C), lymphadenopathy, myalgia, body aches, and asthenia. A confirmed case is a suspected case confirmed by the laboratory (PCR positive), or having an epidemiological link with a Monkeypox epidemic. Sociodemographic, clinical characteristics, travel history were collected. Sampling of scabs and skin rashes. Data were analyzed on Excel and Epi-Info 7.2. Frequency measurements were calculated.
Results : The confirmed case was a 52-year-old man, a planter, with no knowledge of contact with a wild animal, no knowledge of travel. 7 contacts were identified. The median age was 11 years [4 ; 40], the sex ratio with female predominance was 1.3. 86% of contacts (6) presented signs before the onset of signs of the confirmed case. 4 suspected cases still active (57% of contact cases). 67% of nasopharyngeal swab samples are positive.
Conclusion: The first confirmed case in the ME region was detected in the health area of Mébifon in the Yakassé Attobrou health district. The health region remains on alert to respond to this disease in view of the probable mode of transmission by air. An active surveillance and will be assets in the fight against the epidemic
