At UnitedHealth Group, Melany founded and leads Optum Match, a matchmaking service that connects patients and providers based on compatibility for long-term relationship durability. Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, she also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Global Health Equity based in Rwanda and is a published children’s book author.
Melany has her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Hood College located in Frederick, Maryland. She completed her qualitative dissertation exploring the lived experiences of emerging adult women and studied their perceived value of primary care and the patient-clinician relationship. Melany also has a Masters of Public Health in Policy and a Bachelors of Science in Public Health both from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Melany is a lean six sigma black belt and received Penn Business Journal’s Future of Healthcare award along with Becker’s Healthcare recognition of 2024 Rising Stars. As a member of the Society of Women Geographers, Melany finds fulfillment in sustainable travel and spending time in nature.
